You know what kind of irritates me? The fact that people in non art schools don’t respect art majors at all. Any time I go home and see friends I always get the classic “wow I wish I could paint all day” or “how are the arts and crafts going?”
I probably spend more time on my craft than anyone else. This is not a group of majors that allows you to go to class for a few hours, go home and study, and then go out drinking with your friends.
Most people I know (including myself) are up twenty hours a day just trying to finish a 60” x 80” piece or constructing things in the metal shops or writing ten page history papers or editing and rendering animation frames - one after the other after the other just for a 20 second clip. It’s a full time job. If you’re dedicated, there’s really no time for anything other than your major.
Try three weeks straight of barely eating and barely sleeping to finish a huge painting that you put your blood sweat and tears in and then taking it into critique to have it torn apart by your professor and your classmates. It takes a toll on your mind - no matter who you are.
Goddammit. Art majors are just as viable as non art majors - if not more because you have more competition in our field. Give us some respect.
I once took an art class and was nearly traumatized by the workload. You go, art majors. 12 hours in an art studio… that...
“I wish I could just write stories all day.” “I wish I got to read poems and snap my fingers in class.” “Have fun...
All art work needs to be accepted.
